Date – Saturday, December 6
Distance – 5k
Time – 26.05 minutes
Place – 26th overall, 2nd in my division, 14th in my gender.
Start/Finish Location – Grass field in front of Jericho Sailing Club.
Notes – This is one of those little community run events to honour someone/something and raise funds. I was intrigued because it had a unique route. It was akin to a mini Tough Mudder even though I have yet to experience a Tough Mudder.
The Gunner Shaw 5k route was over grass fields, muddy fields, through mud flats, up hills, down muddy hills, through swaths of barking crows (yes, barking), on the sand, through the forest, some large puddles and again. The 10k was the same route twice.
Not many people participated – maybe a few hundred? No strollers, dogs, or kids. I heard that in 2013 (the year before) it was really cold and icy with a few runners going down. If I’m trained up enough I’d like to do the 10k next year. We’ll see. No photos – too difficult to photograph while knee-deep in mud and leaves.
